Daily Hardwood Care
In the middle of a busy week, it can be hard to remember to care for your stunning hardwood. However, the more preventative measures that you can take, the easier it is to keep your planks looking radiant! Use mats by all entrances and encourage guests to scrape footwear before coming inside. During rainy or snowy weather, have all footwear removed by the door to prevent dirt, mud, moisture, ice, and slush from reaching the wood surface. Also, use area rugs throughout the home as another layer of protection for your hardwood floors against foot traffic and spills.
Life with Pets on Hardwood
If you have pets in the home, you can still keep your hardwood looking great! Take these wise steps to make life with pets even easier:
- Make sure to keep all nails and claws trimmed to prevent scratches.
- Brush pets to reduce the amount of hair and dander.
- Complete house-training before your pets can spend time on wood floors.
- Place food and water bowls for pets on mats with the appropriate backing for wood floors.
- A high-character hardwood texture or mixed-shade wood floor will look fresher between cleanings.
Removing dirt and debris effectively is one of the biggest keys to preserving the appearance of your hardwood! Dust-mop or sweep with a gentle bristle broom as frequently as possible to remove dirt, debris, dust, and pet dander before the particles become abrasive.
Treat spills as promptly as possible to prevent moisture damage to your wood floors. Gently remove all solid material with a spoon and paper towels, and begin wiping up the spill with a dry, clean white cloth or paper towels. Start from the perimeter of the spill and work towards the center.
We recommend keeping a gentle hardwood-specific cleaner on hand to spot treat your floors when needed. Before using a wet mop or Swiffer WetJet system on your floors, check with your hardwood manufacturer's warranty for proper steps and procedures.
